essay title Investigating the Anthropogenic hazards created in a low-income setting by the fast fashion industry target audience ages 10+ commentary The fast fashion industry has a detrimental impact on climate change and global heating. Ten per cent of all carbon dioxide emissions are produced by the fashion industry, in large part due to the many miles a garment will travel around the world in production. One garment of clothing may travel around the globe at least once before it reaches its final destination (Niinimäki et al., 2020). The aim of this resource is two-fold. First, the board game shows the distance which an item travels before reaching a wardrobe. Second, the game shows the decisions that companies consider. There are many decisions that designers make – down to the inclusion of a zip. Each stage of the process creates an ethical dilemma. The snakes and ladders in this game represent those dilemmas, with snakes showing unethical decisions that various companies undergo and ladders displaying more sustainable options. Overall, this game raises awareness of the impacts of the fast fashion industry on the environment to trigger consumers to choose more sustainable options when buying clothes. |
