cristina catania flores essay title From the ground up: Community agricultural initiatives and emergency mobilities in Puerto Rico post-Maria target audience People living in the UK with access to internet commentary Set in the UK, this mockumentary criticises the danger of a society’s reliance on huge mono-corporations. Despite being comedic in order to engage the audience, the film mirrors the unfortunate reality of Puerto Rico, where their food andenergy systems rely almost entirely on external sources, particularly mainland United States. When Hurricane Maria destroyed the docks - the civilians’ only access to food and resources - the impacts were disastrous. This film promotes a bottom-up approach, where communities collaborate on a local level to be more diverse and resilience in the case of extreme weather. |
